She is the Director of the University of Wisconsin Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention (UW-CTRI), whose mission is to expand the understanding of tobacco dependence and its treatment, and to use this knowledge to design and implement interventions that significantly reduce tobacco use.

Dr. Kathuria is a nationally recognized leader in tobacco treatment, known for her advancement of evidence-based guidelines and policies, innovative implementation science, and scholarly contributions. Dr. Kathuria is additionally a member of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) and the SRNT Treatment Network.
