Dr. Renda Wiener is a pulmonologist, health services researcher, and implementation scientist at the Center for Health Optimization & Implementation Research at the VA Boston Healthcare System, a Professor of Medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, and the Deputy Chief Consultant of VA’s National Center for Lung Cancer Screening. A main focus of her research is to develop, implement, and evaluate strategies to optimize quality, patient-centeredness, and equity of lung cancer screening, and she has participated in several guidelines and policy statements in these areas. Dr. Wiener serves as the Vice Chair of the ACS National Lung Cancer Round Table Shared Decision-Making Task Group.  Dr. Wiener has developed interventions in which Veteran certified peer specialists and clinical lung cancer screening coordinators employ navigation to engage patients in lung cancer screening. She currently is co-leading a multi-site pragmatic randomized trial (the PASI trial) to implement prediction modeling into routine clinical care to optimize patient selection and shared decision-making about lung cancer screening, and increase uptake of lung cancer screening among high-benefit people.
