WakeMed Health and Hospitals

Dr. Vickie Fowler is Board Certified Family Medicine physician and a Fellow with the American Academy of Family Physicians.  She is a graduate of Duke University School of Medicine and completed her Family Medicine residency at UNC Chapel Hill.  She spent the first half of her career in rural western NC in private practice providing full scope family medicine with obstetrics in her hometown of Ashe County.  In 2013, she returned to the Triangle and has held positions at UNC Chapel Hill Department of Family Medicine, Duke Primary Care, and currently works at WakeMed Primary Care in Raleigh, NC.

She is an active member of the AAFP and the NCAFP and serves on the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians Foundation Board.   Dr. Fowler’s diverse interests include provider wellbeing, support for marginalized populations, and rural health care, but she focuses much of her time, both with her patients and beyond the exam room, on cancer prevention, screening and advocacy.  She was appointed to the NC Advisory Committee on Cancer Coordination and Control in 2017 where she served for six years as Co-Chair of the Early Detection and Prevention Subcommittee and two years as ACCCC Chair.

With a love of educating others on cancer prevention and screening, she was named an inaugural Southeastern Regional Clinical Champion for the American Cancer Society in 2023 and currently serves as an ACS Clinical Champion as well as Chair of the ACS NLCRT Provider Engagement & Outreach Task Group.   Dr. Fowler lives in Raleigh, NC, with her husband Dr. Conrad Flick (also a family physician) and they have five children.
